Анотація (Abstract)
The article defines the legal framework of cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union on climate change issues on the basis of the Association Agreement of 2014, reveals the specifics of their obligations in this area, as well as the peculiarities of the organizational and legal mechanism of cooperation. The article draws attention to the fact that the European Union, as one of the key participants in modern international relations, is one of the leaders in shaping the global climate change agenda. EU standards in this area are among the highest in the world, moreover, in accordance with the European Green Deal proclaimed by the European Commission on 11.12.2019, the EU aims to achieve climate neutrality of the continent by 2050. This approach of the EU to addressing climate change also determines the content of the Union’s cooperation with third countries in this area, including Ukraine. The paper emphasizes that certain aspects of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU on environmental issues, including climate change, were first regulated in the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement of 1994. After the entry into force of the Association Agreement between Ukraine, on the one hand, and the European Union, the European Atomic Energy Community and their Member States, on the other hand, in 2014, the parties are deepening their cooperation on climate change. According to Articles 360–361 of the Association Agreement, cooperation on climate change is carried out within the framework of the overall objective of environmental protection and related objectives.
